In light of the burgeoning defense relations between India and Saudi Arabia, Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt engaged in discussions with the Defence Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, on the sidelines of the ongoing World Defence Show (WDS) 2024 in Riyadh on Tuesday. They explored various facets of bilateral defense cooperation, as per a press release from the Defence Ministry in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Ajay Bhatt is currently visiting Riyadh as the head of the Indian delegation for the ongoing World Defence Show (WDS) 2024. This five-day event, which commenced on February 4, is showcasing cutting-edge advancements in defense technology, serving as a crucial platform for international collaboration among participating companies. On behalf of the Government of India, the MoS Defence extended greetings to the leadership of Saudi Arabia for hosting this impressive event, culminating on February 8.
Bhatt also engaged in discussions with the Assistant Minister of Defence of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Khaled Al-Bayari, focusing on strengthening the long-standing and multi-faceted defense cooperation between the two countries. The conversations revolved around exploring avenues for collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including expanding joint training exercises, technology transfer, and expertise exchange.
Moreover, the minister met with the Governor of Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI), Ahmad Abdulaziz Al-Ohali. They deliberated on collaborating in various areas of defense production, research & development, and niche technologies. Additionally, Bhatt visited the pavilion of Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) during WDS 2024.
Throughout these discussions, both sides demonstrated a deep understanding of the evolving security landscape and committed to enhancing bilateral defense cooperation across various sectors while acknowledging the mutual benefits of a robust partnership in safeguarding regional security. Ajay Bhatt expressed confidence that the India-Saudi Arabia partnership will continue to flourish, significantly contributing to regional stability and global security.
The minister also interacted with representatives of Indian defense companies participating in the show, commending them for their cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions. The participation of Indian defense companies is expected to increase the industry’s footprint and foster lasting partnerships between the two nations.
Ajay Bhatt witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Munitions India Ltd and its local partner during WDS 2024. Additionally, he attended a business networking event with leading Indian and Saudi business personalities in Saudi Arabia.
India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and Saudi Arabia’s ‘Vision 2030’ are national programs with mutual benefits. Both initiatives prioritize technological advancements, indigenous capabilities, and knowledge sharing. The visit has reaffirmed the inherent strength of bilateral ties, opened new avenues for cooperation, and solidified shared commitments towards a safer and prosperous future, as emphasized by both sides, the ministry added.
