India Dismisses Rumors of UAE Evacuation Pact via Fujairah Port
NEW DELHI / ABU DHABI – The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a high-priority “Fake News Alert” on Monday, May 11, 2026, flatly denying viral reports that a secret evacuation agreement had been reached with the United Arab Emirates.
The debunked claims suggested that India was preparing a sea-based evacuation route through Fujairah port to move millions of Indian expatriates if regional tensions disrupted air travel.
“No Basis in Fact”
The official response came through the @MEAFactCheck unit on X (formerly Twitter) after a media report labeled the alleged deal a “first-of-its-kind treaty.” The report further speculated that the pact would be signed during a scheduled stopover by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 15, as he travels to Europe.
“There is no basis in fact for such a story,” the MEA stated. “There is no evacuation being planned. Please stay alert against such false and baseless claims.”
Rising Tensions and Strategic Misinformation
The rumor surfaced during a period of heightened regional uncertainty. Following the collapse of peace negotiations between Washington and Tehran, the Gulf has seen increased military activity, including the interception of hostile drones and missiles by UAE air defenses.
Fujairah’s strategic position as the only UAE port outside the Strait of Hormuz often makes it a focal point for logistics discussions. However, authorities emphasized that the current security situation does not warrant emergency evacuation protocols.

Public Outcry for Accountability
The MEA’s clarification was met with a wave of frustration from the Indian community in the UAE. Many users on social media called for legal action against those responsible for creating the “panic-mongering” reports.
“Why don’t they take strict action against these people for spreading Fake News?” one user wrote. “Just issuing a denial won’t achieve anything.”
Official Advisory
With over 3.5 million Indian nationals residing in the UAE, the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai have urged residents to remain calm.
Official guidelines for residents include:
-
Verify Sources: Rely strictly on the official websites and social media handles of the MEA and the Indian Embassy.
-
Legal Risks: Under UAE law, spreading rumors that disturb public order is a serious offense punishable by heavy fines and imprisonment.
-
Consular Support: Standard consular services remain fully operational, and any change in safety status will be communicated through formal government bulletins.
As of Monday afternoon, air traffic and maritime operations across the UAE continue to function normally, and officials have reiterated that the safety of the expatriate community remains a top priority.
