In a surprising turn of events, a man identifying himself as an advisor to US President Joe Biden was apprehended in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on charges of deceiving people with a false identity. Mian Jahidul Islam, also known as Arefy, was detained by Bangladesh Police’s Immigration Services officials at Dhaka Airport as he attempted to board a flight to Washington. Arefy, who holds Bangladeshi-American citizenship, had been actively engaging with the media, asserting his advisory role to President Biden. However, the US Embassy in Dhaka promptly clarified that Arefy was not a representative of the US government but a private individual. The embassy has also sought “consular access” for Arefy. The detainee’s case has sparked intrigue and raised questions about his true affiliations.
