Kerala Confirms Two Monkeypox Cases in Returnees from UAE
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala’s state health minister, Veena George, announced on Wednesday that two monkeypox cases have been recorded in the state.
According to the minister, the two guys, who had got back to Kerala from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), tested positive for the illness.
According to her statement, one of the guys, who lived in the Wayanad region, was initially discovered to be sick, while the second individual from Kannur subsequently tested positive.
Both the patients are currently undergoing treatment at Pariyaram Medical College in Kannur. Their contact tracing details and movement history will be released soon, the statement added.
The health service has responded to the incidents by advising anyone who has come into touch with the patients to keep an eye out for symptoms and report any that they see right away.
The health minister called a meeting of the state-level Rapid Response Team (RRT) to evaluate the situation and give directives to set up more isolation units.
Travelers from abroad have been advised to self-isolate and immediately inform the health department if they develop symptoms.
Awareness campaigns have been intensified, including at airports. Vulnerable groups such as the elderly, pregnant women and children have been urged to exercise extra caution.
A few cases of monkeypox were reported in Kerala in September this year.
