IndiGo Makes Aviation History: Carries Record 100 Million Passengers in a Single Year

In a groundbreaking achievement, IndiGo, the renowned budget airline, has become the first Indian carrier to transport a staggering 100 million passengers within a single calendar year. This remarkable milestone catapults IndiGo into an elite global league of airlines operating on such a massive scale.

IndiGo’s ascent to this historic achievement represents a remarkable 22 percent surge in passenger traffic throughout 2023, surpassing the 78 million passengers flown in the previous year, as disclosed in an official statement by the airline.

Adding to its list of recent accomplishments, IndiGo secured another first for India by surpassing 2,000 daily flights, showcasing the airline’s unparalleled operational prowess.

The budget carrier presently serves an extensive network of 118 destinations, including 32 international locations, solidifying its status as a major player in the global aviation landscape.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers expressed immense delight at reaching this significant milestone, emphasizing that it not only reflects the airline’s strategic prowess but also validates their meticulously executed growth strategy.

In 2022, IndiGo initiated a robust growth strategy under the pillars of ‘Reassure, Develop, and Create,’ aiming to double its size and scale by the end of the decade. To fuel this ambitious plan, the airline made history with an order of 500 new aircraft from Airbus, supplementing the existing order of over 450 aircraft.

Over the past six months, IndiGo has expanded its international footprint by introducing over 20 new routes. Looking ahead, the airline has plans to include destinations like Medina in Saudi Arabia and Bali in Indonesia to its ever-expanding network, further solidifying its status as a trailblazer in the aviation industry.
