Indian Embassy to Launch 14 New Service Centers in the UAE to Enhance Consular Services
The Indian Embassy has announced the opening of 14 new service centres under the Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC), a major step to enhance consular services for Indian people in the United Arab Emirates. The program, which is a component of the Embassy’s continuous endeavours to optimise consular procedures, is expected to enhance the availability of essential services for both foreign individuals seeking Indian visas and the roughly four million Indian expatriates residing in the United Arab Emirates.
Expansion of Consular Services Across the UAE
The second quarter of this year is when the 14 new ICAC branches are expected to open, and they will be positioned thoughtfully throughout the UAE. These branches seek to guarantee that consular services are easily accessible in desirable, well-connected areas with easy parking for candidates. The following sites will host the new ICAC service centres:
- Abu Dhabi: Al Khalidiya, Al Reem, Musaffah, Al Ain, Ghayathi
- Dubai: Bur Dubai, JLT/Marina
- Sharjah: Al Majaz
- Ajman: Al Jurf
- Fujairah
- Umm Al Quwain
- Khor Fakkan: Corniche
- Subaru Kalba
- Ras Al Khaimah: Nakheel, Khuzam, Mareed
These new centers will further enhance accessibility and reduce the distance for Indian nationals seeking consular services, making it easier for them to access essential services like passport renewals, visa applications, and document attestation.
A Unified and Streamlined System
The goal of the ICAC program is to replace the current multi-provider structure by bringing together different consular services under one roof. At the moment, the embassy handles some services itself and hires BLS International for passport and visa applications and IVS Global for document attestation. By consolidating these services into a single, cohesive platform, the ICAC program will increase the effectiveness and accessibility of consular services.
Key features of the ICAC include:
- A new online portal for appointment booking
- Faster appointment scheduling, with available slots within five days
- A processing time of 30 minutes per application
Both Indian citizens and foreign applicants for Indian visas stand to gain from these revisions, which are intended to shorten wait times and boost overall operational effectiveness.
Aiming Accountability and Operational Efficiency
The embassy has implemented an accountability system to uphold excellent service standards. Financial fines will be imposed on service providers who do not fulfil the necessary efficiency criteria. Candidates will be guaranteed prompt and dependable services thanks to this approach.
Addressing the Growing Demand
Between January 2022 and December 2024, Indian embassies processed over 1.58 million transactions, handling an average of 1,760 applications daily. This volume underscores the high demand for consular services and the need for an upgraded, efficient system. The launch of the ICAC is expected to meet this demand and improve the quality of service for the large Indian diaspora in the UAE.
A Delayed Yet Anticipated Launch
The initial tender for the ICAC project was issued in 2023, with the system slated to launch in January 2024. However, due to unforeseen technical issues, the launch was delayed. Now, with the revised timeline, the Indian Embassy is poised to roll out this much-needed upgrade, bringing a more streamlined, transparent, and efficient consular service experience to the Indian community in the UAE.
This initiative marks a significant step toward improving the delivery of consular services, ensuring that Indian nationals in the UAE can access essential services quickly and effectively, all through a more efficient, centralized system.
