Hyderabad’s Jaffar Ahmed Returns Home After Eight Months of Struggle in Saudi Arabia

Hyderabad: After eight months of struggle in Saudi Arabia, 26-year-old Jaffar Ahmed has returned home

Hyderabad resident Jaffar Ahmed, 26, has finally returned home safely after enduring eight months of ordeal in Saudi Arabia (KSA). He returned on Saturday, November 30, after a series of health and legal challenges kept him stranded in the country.

Expressing his heartfelt gratitude, Jaffar thanked Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Majlis-e-Bachaw Tehreek (MPT) leader Amjad Ullah Khan for their prompt intervention. He also appreciated the Indian Embassy in Riyadh, the Indian Consulate in Jeddah and the Saudi Arabian Police for facilitating his safe return..

Jaffar’s plight came to light when Amjed Ullah Khan, after being informed of the situation by Jaffar’s father, Aijaz Ahmed, took immediate action to help. Within 72 hours of Khan raising the issue with Dr. S. Jaishankar, efforts were made to bring Jaffar back to India.

Jaffar, originally from Mohammadi Lines, Golconda Qila, Hyderabad, had moved to Saudi Arabia in February 2024 after securing a job as a supervisor at Al Jawharah for Cartons, a company in Jeddah. However, his health deteriorated as a result of exposure to hazardous chemical fumes at work, causing him to suffer asthma attacks, which worsened his sinusitis.

Jaffar sought help to return to India as his health deteriorated to the point where he could no longer work. He tried to leave, but his kafeel (sponsor) prevented him from doing so despite his health problems. Without assistance with food, medicine, and other essentials, Jaffar’s health deteriorated.

In a desperate attempt to get help, Jaffar moved to Riyadh to live with his family. His situation was eventually recognized by the relevant authorities, and after considerable effort, he was permitted to return to India.

After months of adversity, Amjed Ullah Khan announced that Jaffar had returned home safely. He thanked everyone for their assistance and expressed relief that the young man could finally be with his family once more. In particular, if workers do not receive the necessary assistance, they may experience health or legal concerns. Jaffar’s story demonstrates the difficulties that many international workers encounter.
