UAE Confirms Eid Al-Fitr 2025 Public Holidays for Government Employees
Dubai, United Arab Emirates – The UAE has officially announced the public holiday schedule for Eid Al-Fitr 2025, outlining the break period for government sector employees.
The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) announced in a circular on Monday, March 17, that the official holiday will start on Shawwal 1 and end on Shawwal 3, 1446 AH. On Shawwal 4, workers are anticipated to return to their jobs.
Eid Dates Depend on Moon Sighting
According to Islamic tradition, the sighting of the crescent moon marks the beginning of Shawwal, the month that follows Ramadan. In order to verify the commencement date of Eid, the UAE moon-sighting committee plans to look at the sky on Saturday, March 29, 2025.
- If the crescent moon is sighted on March 29, Eid Al-Fitr will fall on Sunday, March 30, with holidays observed on March 30, March 31, and April 1 (Sunday–Tuesday).
- If the moon is not visible and Ramadan completes 30 days, Eid will begin on Monday, March 31, with the holidays extending to April 1 and April 2 (Monday–Wednesday).
- Should Ramadan extend to 30 full days, the 30th day of Ramadan will also be considered a public holiday, providing government employees with an additional day of rest.
