Starting January 15, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially declared an increase in the minimum top-up amount for Nol cards at Metro station ticket offices to Dh20, as per the announcement on Friday. It’s important to note that this adjustment is exclusive to physical top-ups at ticket offices and does not impact online transactions.
At present, Nol cards permit a minimum top-up of Dh5. Additionally, commuters are advised to maintain a minimum balance of Dh15 for a round trip on the expansive Dubai Metro transit network.
Nol cards, serving as versatile prepaid smart cards, function as a universal payment method for various public transport modes in Dubai, spanning the Metro, buses, trams, and waterbuses. Beyond facilitating transportation, these cards prove versatile by covering expenses like taxi fares, parking fees, entrance to public parks, access to the Etihad Museum, and transactions at over 2,000 shops, restaurants, and stores across the city.
The process of topping up Nol cards is designed to be flexible, offering multiple avenues such as RTA ticket vending machines, solar top-up machines, and the Nol Pay app for virtual cards.
In a bid to enhance the user experience, the RTA has introduced the Nol Plus program, a comprehensive loyalty and rewards initiative tailored for Nol cardholders. Participants in this program accumulate points and gain access to exclusive benefits each time they utilize their Nol cards for Dubai Metro rides, taxi fares, public buses, or parking payments. Loyalty points earned through these transactions can be redeemed to recharge their Nol account or enjoy discounts at designated restaurants and shops, providing an added incentive for using the Nol card for various services in the city.
