Dubai to restrict truck movement on Emirates Road during evening peak from 2025

Dubai to restrict truck movement on Emirates Road during evening peak from 2025

Dubai to Expand Truck Movement Restrictions on Emirates Road from January 2025

On January 1, 2025, Dubai plans to implement new regulations that would increase the limitations on truck mobility. The area of Emirates Road between Al Awir Street and Sharjah will be the focused focus of the effort. This action is a part of the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) larger plan to promote road safety throughout the emirate, improve traffic conditions, and lessen congestion.

An Action Step for Improved Traffic Flow
The RTA’s decision is consistent with its continuous attempts to increase the number of routes in Dubai where truck movement is prohibited. The government claims that the objective is to enhance overall traffic flow during peak hours and maximize road capacity for private automobiles.

According to the RTA, “this will improve road safety standards throughout the emirate, improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and increase road capacity for private vehicles on the designated streets.”

Prior Actions Created the Scene
An enhanced truck movement ban on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road during morning and evening peak hours was put into effect by the RTA earlier in April 2024.

Building on the success of this program, Emirates Road is now also subject to the limit, especially during the evening hours when traffic is at its maximum.

Complete Prohibition on All Major Roads
There are already restrictions on truck travel on a number of Dubai’s main thoroughfares, such as Meydan Street and Al Ittihad Street.

Additionally, there is a 16-hour prohibition from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. in residential districts close to Sharjah, including Al Mizhar, Al Muhaisnah, and Oud Al Muteena.

Truck movements are prohibited at certain peak hours in medium-congested urban areas, such as the streets of Damascus, Oman, and the airport:

Morning: 6:30 a.m.

to 8:30 a.m.
Afternoon: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Evening: 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Enhancing Safety and Reducing Congestion
Major-General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Acting Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police, emphasized that the new restrictions were carefully planned based on extensive studies of engineering and technical standards.

“After a thorough analysis of the engineering and technical standards necessary to strike a balance between safety requirements and transportation demands, the decision was made to prohibit truck movement on Emirates Road towards Sharjah during evening peak hours,” he stated.

This initiative’s main goal is to reduce traffic accidents brought on by trucks and smaller cars interacting. In order to make journeys safer and more effective for all users of the roads, it also aims to reduce traffic on important highways during peak hours.

Increasing Stakeholder Awareness
To make sure truck drivers and transport firm owners are fully informed of the new limitations, the RTA and the police have teamed up. The modified times and rules will be disseminated through social media posts, media announcements, and awareness efforts.

There have been 792 recorded violations of the current truck movement limits this year alone, which is a large number. The new regulations are intended to encourage cooperation and compliance from all parties involved, according to the authorities.

Safety precautions and informational assistance
Informational and directional signage will be erected at the beginning and conclusion of the restricted zones to aid in the enforcement of the restriction.

To guarantee broad awareness, multilingual radio announcements and ads will be used on a variety of media.

An Active Measure for a Securer Future
The initiative’s wider effects were emphasized by Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency.

He stated that the prohibition will increase operating efficiency throughout the emirate, improve road safety, and redirect truck traffic to other routes.

“A proactive move towards establishing a safer and more effective traffic environment is the new measure on Emirates Road.

The initiative’s goals can be accomplished without interfering with logistics or the economy if truck drivers and transport company owners cooperate and are dedicated to it, said Al Banna.

This increase in truck movement limitations demonstrates Dubai’s dedication to preserving its position as a world leader in infrastructure innovation and urban planning while guaranteeing a safer, more effective road network.
