Abu Dhabi Set to Launch the World’s Second Sphere Venue
Abu Dhabi will be the second Sphere venue in the globe, according to a statement released by Sphere Entertainment and the Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi). This cutting-edge entertainment center hopes to provide both residents and visitors with a variety of exciting possibilities.
Located in a prime area, the venue will utilize Sphere Entertainment’s original content and proprietary technology to enhance tourism and boost revenue. The first Sphere venue opened in Las Vegas in September 2023 to widespread acclaim.
With a capacity of nearly 20,000, the Abu Dhabi venue is poised to host a variety of shows, events, and concerts. James L. Dolan, Executive Chairman and CEO of Sphere Entertainment, expressed pride in partnering with DCT Abu Dhabi, stating, “Sphere is redefining live entertainment.”
Sphere Entertainment will receive a franchise initiation fee for building the venue and using its technology and designs. While DCT Abu Dhabi will fund construction, Sphere will assist with development and pre-opening tasks.
Post-launch, both entities will collaborate on operations, technology services, and strategic advisory support. They will also develop plans for annual fees related to Sphere’s creative content and brand utilization.
HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, highlighted that this partnership aligns with their Tourism Strategy 2030, aiming to establish Abu Dhabi as a vibrant cultural and innovation hub.
With attractions including the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Emirates Heritage Village, Yas Marina Circuit, Yas Waterworld, Louvre Abu Dhabi, and Corniche Beach, Abu Dhabi is a popular travel destination in the United Arab Emirates.
